Russian-American Pianist Olga Kern is now recognized as one of her generation’s great pianists. She jumpstarted her U.S. career with her historic Gold Medal win at the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in Fort Worth, Texas as the first woman to do so in more than 30 years. Her discography includes her Grammy nominated recordings including works by Rachmaninoff, Corelli, Brahms, and Chopin.

Description
The Madison Symphony Orchestra and Conductor John DeMain open this concert with Ravel’s fairy-tale inspired Mother Goose Suite, followed by Barber’s Piano Concerto, featuring brilliant Russian-American Pianist Olga Kern. The concert closes with Dvorák’s Symphony No. 9 (From the New World), said to be inspired by the “wide open spaces” of the prairies that the composer visited during a trip to Iowa.
